In [[2018]] and [[2019]] the system claimed to have conducted a "national and international" search for a chancellor to take the position left vacant by the sudden retirement of [[Ray Hayes]]. No finalists were announced before long-time board member and interim chancellor [[Finis St John IV]] was offered the permanent position along with a substantial increase in compensation.
