The David J. Vann Municipal Justice Center, located on the northeast corner of 17th Street and 8th Avenue North, houses the Municipal Court for the city of Birmingham. The building is named for former mayor David Vann and was designed by City Architect Paul Jennings. It was dedicated in 1998.

The building contains three courtrooms, named Court Room A, Court Room B, and Court Room C. Currently, David Barnes presides over traffic cases in Court Room A; Agnes Chappell presides over misdemeanor and domestic violence cases in Court Room B, and Raymond P. Chambliss presides over environmental, drug, alcohol, revenue and gun cases in Court Room C. Aloysisus Golden's South Court, the Magistrates' Offices and other court functions are located at the Birmingham City Jail.

In 2007 the city began a $400,000 interior renovation of the Municipal Justice Center to add handicapped-accessible restrooms, more offices, and an expanded lobby and ticket counter. The architect for the remodeling was NHB Group.
