The Literacy Council of Central Alabama is a non-profit organization which offers tutoring and other programs to teach reading, writing and speaking to adults who are functionally illiterate or who do not speak English in Jefferson, Blount, St Clair, Shelby and Walker Counties.

The Literacy Council was founded in 1991 as a joint project of United Way of Central Alabama, the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, and the Junior League of Birmingham.
