Race for the Cure

The Komen Birmingham Race for the Cure is part of an international series of 5K road races held annually to raise awareness of and funds for the Dallas-based Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation which supports research and outreach efforts in the fight against breast cancer. The North Central Alabama Affiliate of the Komen Foundation sponsors the Birmingham race, which has been run since 1991. 75% of the funds raised by the local event, which totaled over $400,000 in 2005, are used in community programs in the local area. The local presenting sponsor is WBRC/Fox 6.

The 2006 Race for the Cure was held October 14 at Linn Park.
