Richard Margison
Richard Margison the then UAB Vice-President for Finance and Administration was named interim Athletics Director at UAB on December 12, 2005 following the resignation of Watson Brown from the post to concentrate on his football coaching duites.
During his short 14 month tenure, Margison was responsible for hiring Mike Davis as the Blazer's 4th Head Men's Basketball Coach, Brian Shoop as the new Baseball Coach and Neil Callaway as the 3rd Head Football Coach in[[2006]. His tenure ended on February 14, [[2007] with the promotion of Brian Mackin to the Athletics Director position.
Academic Administration
Richard Margison, served as Vice President for Financial Affairs and Administration at UAB from 1998-2014.
Margison came to UAB from the University of Illinois where he spent 21 years, most of those in the role of Associate Vice President for Business and Finance. While working at Illinois, he was closely involved in Fighting Illini athletics, serving on the Athletic Board of Control.
Prior to going to Illinois, Margison spent seven years at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in the position of Controller – Budget Director.
Personal
A native of Cortland, N.Y., Margison was an outstanding basketball player at Cortland High School and later at the State University of New York at Albany. While at SUNY-Albany, Margison was an honorable mention All-America basketball performer and still is listed among the school’s all-time leaders in scoring.
Margison and his wife, Lynn, have two sons, Ramsey (26) and Blake (24).
