The 2018 UAB Highlands shooting was a fatal incident that took place on the second floor of UAB Hospital-Highlands at 1201 11th Avenue South on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, just a week after another shooting at Huffman High School.

A little before 7:00 PM Trevis Devon Coleman, a 31-year-old sterile supply worker, pulled out a handgun while he was being reprimanded by nursing supervisor Nancy Turnage Swift, 63. He shot her in the chest, killing her, and also shot surgical instrument supervisor Timothy Noah Isley, 28. Coleman then shot himself in the head, and was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:35 PM. Swift was taken into the emergency room at the facility and pronounced dead at 9:01 PM. Isley was transported to the Trauma Burn Center intensive care unit at the main UAB Hospital and was discharged from that unit into a recovery room on March 22.

The Birmingham Police Department responded to the call of an active shooter and immediately entered the building. After an initial lockdown, non-essential employees were evacuated to the new UAB Police Headquarters until an "all clear" was issued at 7:45 PM.
