The Birmingham Green is the landscaped portion of 20th Street North between Morris Avenue and Linn Park in downtown Birmingham. The project was completed in 1973 at a cost of $5 million paid for by local business owners, local, and federal governments. Its construction involved the burial of utility lines and the creation of a more green, pedestrian friendly environment along the route. Today, 20th is the “greenest” street in downtown Birmingham with ample tree cover and flower lined medians. Some of the notable structures along the route include the Heaviest Corner on Earth, the Frank Nelson Building, the Farley Building, the Watts Building, the Regions Bank Building, the Financial Center, the AmSouth Center, the AmSouth-Harbert Center, and the Park Place Tower.
