The Brother Bryan Mission , Birmingham's first mission for the homeless, was founded in 1940 to carry on the ministry of Brother Bryan, who died in 1941.

Its first location was in five rooms on the top floor of a building on 20th Street North, but by 1945 a large gift from Robert Munger allowed the mission to move to its own facility.

The mission is currently located at 1616 2nd Avenue North and has 66 beds available to homeless men as part of its ministry to help change lives with safe shelter, nutritious meals, drug and alcohol counseling, computer and literacy classes, and chapel services.

The Brother Bryan Mission has always been non-denominational and has operated independently of government support. The executive director is Linda Hartley.
