Cosmo's neon sign in January 2007

Cosmo's Pizza is a pizzeria and sandwich shop opened in 1986 by Stanley Shafferman at 2012 Magnolia Avenue in Birmingham's Pickwick Plaza at the heart of the Five Points South entertainment district. The business was later turned over to Billy Caldwell. Current owners Bill Deason and Leisa Bunn had both been long-time employees when they partnered to purchase the business in 2000.

Cosmo's pizza is a New York-style, thin-crust pizza loaded with toppings. Everything, including the sauces, is made from scratch in the restaurant's kitchen. The "House Special" is topped with pesto, prosciutto, sweet peppers, feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, and Italian sausage. A few of its more exotic pizza toppings include alligator sausage, hearts of palm and roasted eggplant. Cosmos is also known for its made-on-the-premises chocolate mousse.
