The Kracke Building

The Roy R. Kracke Clinical Services Building is a 7-story brick building located at 1922 7th Avenue South in the UAB Medical Center. It was constructed in 1929 as a nurse's dormitory for the adjacent Hillman Hospital.

The building was remodeled in 1965 for clinical services and rededicated in honor of Alabama Medical College dean Roy Kracke (1897-1950).

In 2020 the University of Alabama Board of Trustees approved the development of plans to demolish the Kracke Building to provide a staging area for expansion and renovation of the neighboring Lyons Harrison Research Building as the Altec Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building. After those projects are completed, the Kracke building's site would be converted into a green space.
