Marie Weaver

Marie Weaver is an artist who specializes in book arts, printmaking, painting and graphic design. Weaver holds a Bacehlor of Arts from the University of Vermont and a Masters in Fine Art from Syracuse University. Her career began as an apprentice to renowned Vermont printmaker Sabra Field. She was an associate professor of design at UAB's Department of Art and Art History for several years.

In 1998 and 1999 Weaver received faculty development grants from UAB for her projects "A New Codex: Books as Subject in the Digitized Age", and "Looking for the Book at the Beginning of the Twenty-First Century.". In 1999 she was awarded the UAB President's Award for Excellence in Teaching for the School of Arts and Humanities.

In 2003 "The Marie Weaver and Steve Harvey Endowed Scholarship Fund for Graphic Design" was set up by the UAB in honor of Weaver and her husband, Stephen C. Harvey, a professor of biochemistry and molecular genetics.

Weaver currently lives and works in Atlanta.

• UpSouth (1999) traveled to several venues across Birmingham, including Space One Eleven, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the UAB Visual Arts Gallery, and Agnes. It showed the work of Weaver along with artists Emma Amos and Willie Cole and writer bell hooks, as well as Ann Benton, Priscilla Hancock Cooper, Karen Graffeo, Lee Isaacs, Mary Ann Sampson and Jess Marie Walker.
