Rendering of the Montelena proposal

Montelena is a proposed $50 million, 7-story condominium development located on Hollywood Boulevard in the Redmont neighborhood of Birmingham near Mountain Brook Village. The site, which overlooks Highway 280, is part of a narrow spur of Birmingham which includes Lane Park on the border between Homewood and Mountain Brook. The site was formerly occupied by PT's Sports Grill and Mexico Lindo restaurant.

The 49-unit project is planned by Inkana Development, represented by Slade Blackwell with Williams-Blackstock Architects creating the design. It was originally proposed as an 11-story tower, but scaled back to the currently-planned 7 stories. Each unit will be two-bedrooms and two baths, starting at 1,500 square feet and ranging in price from $550,000 to $1.3 million.

B. L. Harbert International is set to begin construction in October 2006.
