The school, along with Cahaba Elementary School and Magnolia Elementary School, serves students living within the Trussville School System in grades K-5.

When opened in 2003, the school was named Paine Primary School and served Kindergarten, first and second grades, while the adjacent Paine Intermediate served grades 3, 4, and 5. In 2016, the schools were combined into one and renamed Paine Elementary. Paine, along with Cahaba Elementary School and Magnolia Elementary School
