U. S. Highway 11 (also referred to as U.S. Route 11) is a 1,645 mile long north-south United States highway. The route, created in 1926, closely follows that original plan. As of 2004, the highway's northern terminus is in Rouses Point, New York at the Canadian border. Its southern terminus is in the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge near Lake Pontchartrain, in eastern New Orleans, Louisiana at an intersection with U. S. Highway 90. Along the way, Highway 11 traverses Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Highway 11 broadly parallels I-59 from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Birmingham then I-59/I-20 to the Mississippi state line. Throughout Alabama, U.S. 11 is paired with unsigned State Highway 7.

From Roebuck northeast through Huffman, Trussville, Argo, and Springville, it is known as Gadsden Highway, except through downtown Trussville where it is known as Main Street. At Roebuck Parkway, Highway 11 merges with Parkway East heading west. At the southern end of Roebuck Municipal Golf Course, it becomes 1st Avenue North and briefly merges with U. S. Highway 78. It then turns north on 13th Street North for two blocks before continuing west as 3rd Avenue North, which then becomes 3rd Avenue West. In Ensley, it takes a turn to the southwest as Bessemer Road and then the Bessemer Super Highway, before becoming 9th Avenue North and then 9th Avenue Southwest in Bessemer. At Academy Drive, Highway 11 then merges with Interstate 20/Interstate 59 before leaving Jefferson County.
