Blue House Café

The Blue House Café was a restaurant which operated in large old house on Railroad Street alongside the L& N Railroad tracks. It is presently addressed at 10221 Alabama State Highway 119 (Montevallo Road) in Alabaster.

The restaurant hosted John F. Kennedy Jr during his 1995 visit to Alabama to interview George Wallace for his magazine, George. John Katopodis, described as a family friend, was part of the group dining there.

The restaurant closed in the early 2000s. In 2015, as the Alabaster Commercial Development Authority was considering purchasing the property, the Shelby County Museum and Archives launched a public campaign to try to save the building from demolition. Neither of those efforts bore tangible fruit and in 2017 the Alabaster Housing Abatement Board recommended that the city demolish the vacant house and apply a lien on the property. The Alabaster City Council voted unanimously to proceed after a hearing on November 13.
