Based on the 2012 census estimate of 206,926 population, that represents 26.1 homicides per 100,000 population for the year. Birmingham had 61 homicides in [[List of Birmingham homicides in 2011|2011]], 63 in [[List of Birmingham homicides in 2010|2010]], 72 in [[List of Birmingham homicides in 2009|2009]], and a record of 141 in [[List of Birmingham homicides in 1992|1992]]. At this time in 2011 there had been 22 homicides.

  14. March 12: DeMarcus Horton, 19, was shot to death on the porch of a house at 4817 Avenue V near Five Points West. Two other victims are expected to recover. No arrest. (report)

A march against violence, sponsored by Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference was held on April 10 in Ensley.
