- 1956: Fred Shuttlesworth's home was bombed. He emerged from the basement unscathed.
- 1945: Football Hall-of-Famer Kenny Stabler was born.
- 1910: Deputy Ollie Battle was killed in the line of duty.
- 1903: Officer A. J. Lockhart, dressed as Santa Claus, shot John Parsons to death outside a Cedar Bluff church.
