* [[January 16]], [[1977]]: An Amtrak train operated by the [[L&N Railroad]], from Nashville, Tennessee to Wildwood, Florida, derailed due to misaligned track on a curve near [[New Castle]]. The locomotive and 12 cars left the track. 68 passengers and 8 railroad personnel were injured, but there were no fatalities.
