Robert E. Luckie Jr (born 1917 in Clanton; died February 28, 2007 in Birmingham) was the founder, in 1953, of the advertising agency Luckie & Co.
Luckie is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and worked as a reporter and advertising representative with The Birmingham News before World War II. During the war he served as Assistant Pacific Fleet Press Officer for Admiral Chester Nimitz in the Pacific theater.
Since its founding, Luckie and Co. has grown to become one of the top 50 ad agencies in the United States. Luckie's sons Robert III and Tommy currently run the firm.
Luckie was one of the founders of the Metropolitan Development Board and of the Board of Visitors at the UAB School of Nursing. He has also served on the boards of Birmingham-Southern College, the Emmett O'Neal Public Library in Mountain Brook and Canterbury United Methodist Church. He was also a president of the Country Club of Birmingham, The Club, and the Kiwanis Club of Birminigham. He has also served on the boards of directors of SouthTrust Bank, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and the Alabama Motorists Association. He co-chaired the Jefferson County United Appeal and was the chairman of Radio Free Europe in 1964.
Luckie's wife, the former Lois Drolet of Tuscaloosa preceded him in death. He is survived by four children, Kay, Bob III, Tommy and Anne, nine grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
