In 1940, there was no Route 20. In 1947 Route 20 began at 1st Avenue North and 48th Street and proceeded north on 50th Street, along the western edge of the Municipal Airport to East Lake Boulevard. The route turned back north along Graston Avenue and then west toward Jackson Boulevard in Tarrant along Wharton Avenue, connecting to Route 22.
