- January 12: Donald Addison Durr, Jr, 49, was found injured and suffering from exposure in a vacant lot off Dugan Avenue, where Nelson Avenue becomes Hixon Street in the North Pratt neighborhood (map). He died later at UAB Hospital. James Holmes, Jr and J'Andre Cockrell, suspected in another assault and robbery nearby, were charged with the murder. (report)
- January 18: Nina Gardner, 30, was found shot to death at her home at 228 South Park Road in the Germania Park neighborhood (map). Terrance Edwards, the victim's boyfriend, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder. (report)
