This is a List of Amtrak collisions in the Birmingham District. Amtrak currently operates daily service through Birmingham on the Crescent line between New Orleans, Louisiana and New York City.
This list is incomplete and may never satisfy any subjective standard for completeness. You can help Bhamwiki by expanding it.
Collisions
- January 16, 1977: An Amtrak train operated by the L&N Railroad, from Nashville, Tennessee to Wildwood, Florida, derailed due to misaligned track on a curve near New Castle. The locomotive and 12 cars left the track. 68 passengers and 8 railroad personnel were injured, but there were no fatalities. (report)
- November 6, 2015: The driver was killed when his dump truck was struck by a northbound Amtrak train after he drove around the crossing guard arms in Bessemer. No train passengers were injured. (report)
- December 15, 2018: Lloyd Ree Orr Jr, 45 and Kristi Venise Cook, 35, were killed when their car was struck by an Amtrak train after driving around the crossing guard arms at 17th Street Southwest on the border of Oakwood Place and West End Manor. No train passengers were injured. (report)
- June 16, 2022: Roger Lewis Jr, 72, was killed when his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train after he drove around the crossing guard arms on 17th Street Southwest, on the border of Oakwood Place and West End Manor. (report)
