- 1995: Former Mayor of Homewood Robert Waldrop died.
- 1989: The Stars Fell on the Alabama Reunion was held at the Alabama Theatre.
- 1957: Fred Shuttlesworth accompanied a group of four black children and their parents to Phillips High School in an attempt to enroll them as the school's first black students.
- 1934: Poet Sonia Sanchez was born in Birmingham.
- 1925: W. H. Coleman, a Fairfield police officer, was killed in the line of duty.
- 1918: Civil Rights Guard Colonel Stone Johnson was born in Hayesville (Lowndes County).
