The 1997 Iron Bowl took place on November 22, 1997 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. It was the 62nd contest in the series.

Auburn defeated Alabama narrowly 18-17. First-year Crimson Tide coach Mike DuBose's team, a program under NCAA sanctions regarding the Gene Jelks and Antonio Langham cases, fell to 4-7. Alabama had the lead late in the game and could have ran the clock out with a first down run. Unexplicably, a pass call was made, which was fumbled and the Tigers recovered deep in Alabama territory. Auburn marched down the field and scored with seconds remaining on the clock. Several Alabama coaches were fired after the loss.
