Food World is a chain of supermarkets launched in the Birmingham District by Bruno's in 1972. At one point it was one of the main competitors in the Birmingham grocery market, competing mainly with Winn-Dixie, Piggly Wiggly, and Western Supermarkets. However, between Bruno's Chapter 11 bankruptcies in 1998 and 2009, most Food World stores are now closed, with the only two locations in the district still open being the location on Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive in Hueytown, and Green Springs Highway. The company website only lists 20 locations open in Alabama, and 7 in Florida.
