Larry Lemak
Dr Lawrence J. Lemak is a world renowned orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopy and reconstruction of the knee, shoulder, hip and elbow.
A graduate of the UAB School of Medicine, Lemak was a founding partner, along with James Andrews, of Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, one of the nation's leading orthopaedic clinics. In 2007, Lemak and Andrews split amicably, dissolving the ASMOC. Lemak and his son Lemak moved their practice to Brookwood Hospital that November.
Lemak has played an integral role in sports medicine and arthroscopy research as one of the founders and board members of the American Sports Medicine Institute, a research and education center. He is also a founder of the National Center for Sports Safety. He serves as Medical Director for Major League Soccer, NFL Europe, Professional Golf Association and the Ladies Professional Golf Association. He is also Team Physician for many colleges and universities including Auburn University, Samford University, Birmingham-Southern College, Alabama State University, Miles College and the University of Montevallo.
Lemak was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He was president of the CFL's expansion team, the Birmingham Barracudas. He was a proponent of the MAPS proposal, and worked to bring soccer matches to Legion Field during the 1996 Olympics. He is also a proponent of the proposed dome.
