MountainTop Community Church is a 2.000 member congregation founded by Bill Elder in 1992. The church's mission is to reach people who did not currently attend church, employing extensive outreach programs and contemporary-style worship services.

Elder began leading services in homes with as few as 10 people in attendance. In 2001, MountainTop moved into a 34-acre, $11.5 million campus on Centerview Drive off U. S. Highway 31 in Vestavia Hills with a 1,700 seat sanctuary.

Elder suffered a stroke on December 24, 2009 and remained hospitalized until March 11, 2010. He resumed preaching on a limited basis on September 26 of that year.
