Christopher Tyler Burks

Christopher Tyler Burks (also known as Chris Burks; born 1987) is an urban policy scholar, professor, planning commissioner, and consultant in Birmingham.[1]

Burks is a visiting assistant professor of political science at Samford University in the Howard College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on regional governance in the Birmingham Metropolitan Area. He teaches courses in American politics, law, policy, planning, and administration.[2]

Burks was appointed to the Birmingham Planning Commission by the Birmingham City Council on Aug 22, 2023.[3] He serves as a commissioner implementing the Birmingham Comprehensive Plan by coordinating public and private development in the City of Birmingham, including its transportation network, community facilities, and the arrangement of land uses.
