Birmingham City Council

The Birmingham City Council is the legislative body for the City of Birmingham. It was formed in April 1963 by the passage of the Mayor-Council Act, which replaced the former Birmingham City Commission. Initially elected to at-large seats, the Council now consists of nine members representing nine individual districts and facing elections every four years. The current makeup of the council, following the October 2005 election, is:
