In 1813, the Philharmonic Society was founded in London (later the Royal Philharmonic Society). Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice was published. James Madison began his second term as President. The War of 1812 between the United States and the British Empire continued, as did the Napoleonic Wars in Europe.
