Colonial Bank
Colonial Bank is a Montgomery-based regional bank and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Colonial has 300 branches in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Nevada and Texas.
The bank was founded in 1981 by Bobby Lowder. It has had a banking presence in Birmingham since it acquired Exchange National Bank of Birmingham in 1982.
The bank's CEO is Lewis Beville. The chairman of the board is Simuel Sippial, Jr. Both positions were held by Lowder until his retirement in 2009. Lowder's departure coincided with a massive cash investment by Florida's Taylor Bean & Whitaker, making the bank eligible for the U. S. government's Troubled Asset Relief Program. The investment firm took a 75% interest in the bank.
