Decatur Highway is an older name for the portion of what is now U.S. Highway 31 as it leads north from Birmingham through Fultondale, Gardendale, Morris, Kimberly, Warrior, and beyond toward Decatur in Morgan County. The section of the highway in the Gardendale city limits runs through the eastern side of the city and was the main north-south thoroughfare until I-65 was opened in the mid-1980's.

On February 20, 2001 the portion of U.S. Highway 31 in northern Jefferson County extending from the southern boundary of the city of Gardendale north to the Blount/Jefferson County line was designated as Jack Biddle Highway in appreciation of Biddle’s exemplary service to the people of Alabama Senate District 17 and to the State of Alabama.
