The Pickwick Hotel and Conference Center is an 8-story 63-room full service hotel and conference center located mostly within the Medical Arts Building at 1023 20th Street South near 5 Points South.

Adjacent to the hotel itself is a conference center and retail development called Pickwick Plaza. Both developments, which are named for the former Pickwick Club, were created in the 1980s by cardiac surgeon Donald Kahn.

In November 2006 Atlanta developers Long & Cox Properties Inc. announced plans to purchase the hotel and embark on a $7 million overhaul which would transform the property into a high-end boutique hotel and martini bar. They have selected Denver, Colorado-based Richfield Hospitality to operate the hotel.

According to the developers’ website, the hotel will temporarily close beginning in January 2007 for the renovations to commence. When complete, it will be reopened as the Hotel Highland at Five Points South in March 2007. [1]
