Revision as of 16:07, 16 January 2014

Secret Stages is a music festival held in downtown Birmingham, AL the first weekend of August at venues in the vicinity of 1st and 2nd Avenue North, and between 22nd and 24th Street North. The festival, which bills itself as a "music discovery festival", features up and coming regional, national and occasionally international acts at venues in the Loft District. Held annually since 2011, Secret Stages was held on the second weekend of May in its first two years, but moved to the August date for the 2013 festival.

Origin

Secret Stages takes it's name from a bham.fm sponsored showcase at Speakeasy in 2009 that was created as a response to the loss of the Homegrown Stage for the 2009 City Stages festival. When City Stages folded in 2009, Chuck Leishman, Jon Poor, Travis Morgan and Sam George began work on a new festival to fill the gap. Sam George, who was also an editor at BHAM.FM, and the other BHAM.FM editors Whitney Mitchell and Chris Mitchell agreed to let the new festival use the Secret Stages name.
