16th Street South is a north-south street in midtown and southside Birmingham, running through UAB's campus to the foot of Red Mountain.

The street formerly begins south of the Railroad Reservation and Railroad Park at 1st Avenue South and continues as far as 6th Avenue South, where it has been interrupted since 1972 by Cooper Green Hospital. It resumes at 7th Avenue South and continues to just past 15th Street South.

The section of 16th Street South just east of the UAB Campus Green has been densely developed for student housing.
