Food World is a chain of supermarkets launched in the Birmingham District by Bruno's in 1972. At one point it was one of the main competitors in the Birmingham grocery market, competing mainly with Winn-Dixie, Piggly Wiggly, and Western Supermarkets. However, between Bruno's Chapter 11 bankruptcies in 1998 and 2009, many Food World stores closed. As of April 2012, the company website only lists 20 locations open in Alabama and 7 in Florida. As of 2012 the chain is owned by Belle Foods.
