Wendy's is a chain of fast food restaurants founded in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio by Dave Thomas, and named for his daughter, Melinda ("Wenda"). The business maintains a local corporate office at 400 Century Park South in Hoover.

In September 1978 the U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit against five Wendy's restaurants in Birmingham, claiming that they required employees to work more than 40 hours per week without paying overtime, and that they failed to keep up-to-date wage and hour records as required under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.

In 2009 Wendy's merged with Arby's

In 2012 Cullman native and Birmingham-Southern College graduate Morgan Smith was cast as the brand's national spokesperson in a campaign that continued through 2016.
