AIA Birmingham, chartered in 1965, is the Birmingham area chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and is part of the AIA Alabama. The group represent approximately 770 architects, interns and affiliates in a six county area (Jefferson, Blount, Bibb, Fayette, St Clair and Tuscaloosa). The purpose of the organization is to promote good design and practice in architecture and to represent the profession.
The chapter's offices are located at 107 21st Street South. The executive director is Rhea Williams.
Awards
Each year the AIA Birmingham chapter honors exceptional work by local firms in the chapter Honor Awards.
2007
- Commercial Honor: Pullman Flats, Krumdieck Design
- Commercial Merit: 2006 Birmingham News building, Williams-Blackstock Architects
- Institutional Honor: UAB Campus Recreation Center, Williams-Blackstock Architects
- Institutional Merit: Minor Elementary School, Davis Architects and the M. Miller Gorrie Building for Auburn University's School of Building Science, CMH Architects
- Residential Honor: Golden residence, Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio

2006
- Overall & Institutional Honor: UAB School of Medicine, Birchfield Penuel & Associates with Cannon Design
- Commercial Merit: Addition to the offices of Brasfield & Gorrie, Thompson Architecture
- Residential Honor: Bower residence, KrumdieckI Design
- Residential Merit: Napier residence, KPS Group and Tubb residence, Dungan Nequette Architects
