- 1971: First Alabama Bancshares (now Regions) was created by the union of the First National Banks of Montgomery and Huntsville and the Exchange Security Bank of Birmingham.
- 1969: Birmingham police officer Kenneth Spencer was killed during an altercation at Harris Park. All city-owned pools were closed for the remainder of the year.
