- 2007: Scott's Koneys closed shop on 20th Street to move to the Liberty National Building.

- 2005: Through the Sparks' album Audio Iotas was released on Skybucket Records.
- Governor Bob Riley placed 350 National Guard troops on active duty in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
- 1987: Two Birmingham Barons records were set as Tom Forrester hit three home runs and another extra base hit in a game against Columbus.
- 1977: Virginia Simpson was found murdered in her bed in Chaucer Hall.
- 1938: The Birmingham City Commission passed a noise ordinance.
- 1923: The City of Birmingham steamship was christened at Newport News, Virginia for service between Boston, Massachusetts and Savannah, Georgia.
- 1908: The unsuccessful 1908 United Mine Workers strike was called off by union officials.
