1973: Rosalette Petty of Hawai'i was crowned Miss Black Teenage World at the inaugural pageant in Birmingham.
1949: The Birmingham Business League, Birmingham Emancipation Association and the NAACP organized a protest at which approximately 2,000 Black residents protested at Smithfield Court for an end to list of racially motivated bombings. The crowd approved resolutions in favor of expanding real estate sales to Black buyers, and expressed support for the work of attorney Arthur Shores.
1945: The Birmingham Age-Herald resumed publication after a five-week printer's strike.
1887: Educator A. H. Parker arrived in Birmingham.
1883: Woodward Furnace No. 1 was blown in.
1805: Hosea Holcombe was ordained as a Baptist minister in Padgett's Creek, South Carolina.
