NFR Hall (also known as New Freshman Residence Hall) is a residence hall located on the campus of UAB. The grand opening and dedication of the dorm took place on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Of the 714 beds, 680 are designated for first-time freshman students, and the rest for resident assistants and professional staff.
The building is located on the north half of the block bordered by 9th and 10th Avenues South and 16th and 17th Streets.
The 215,000-square-foot residence hall was designed by Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood architects. It consists of an eight-story tower and a four-story wing which contains common space and multi-use office space in addition to housing. A central atrium features a large stairway lit by a custom-made "dragon scale" chandelier.
A landscaped pedestrian walk connects the building with Denman Hall across 9th Avenue South.
