The 1997 Iron Bowl took place on November 22, 1997 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. It was the 62nd contest in the series.

Auburn defeated Alabama narrowly 18-17. First-year Crimson Tide coach Mike DuBose's team, a program under NCAA sanctions regarding the Gene Jelks and Antonio Langham cases, fell to 4-7. Alabama had the lead late in the game and could have ran the clock out with a first down run. Unexplicably, a pass call was made, which was fumbled and the Tigers recovered deep in Alabama territory. Auburn marched down the field and kicked a field goal with 15 seconds left in the game. Auburn advanced to the SEC championship game. Several Alabama coaches were fired after the loss.
