1998 Iron Bowl

The 1998 Iron Bowl took place on November 21, 1998. It was the 63rd contest in the series and the last to be held at Legion Field in Birmingham.

Alabama defeated Auburn 31-17. Auburn had gone ahead 17-0 in the first half, but quarterback Andrew Zow found his rhythm late in the 2nd quarter and the score was 17-14 at the half. After scoring first in the second half, the Tide held Auburn scoreless for the remainder of the game. Running back Shaun Alexander scored two touchdowns.

The win brought Mike DuBose's team to 7-4 and earned them a trip to the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee. The Tigers dropped to 3-8 under interim head coach Bill Oliver.
