This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2020. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

37 homicides have been reported in the city as of April 20, putting the city on pace for 122 for the year. Based on the 2018 census estimate of 209,880 population, that represents a homicide rate of 58.1 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 110 homicides in 2019. The recent record low of 62 homicides was set in 2014, and the recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this point last year, 35 homicides had been reported.

The city has averaged 10.1 homicides per month, or one every 3.0 days. There were 10 incidents in January, 6 in February, 10 in March, and 11 so far in April. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 13-day span between March 13 and 26. 10 deaths were reported on Sundays, 5 on Mondays, 6 on Tuesdays, 3 on Wednesdays, 7 on Thursdays, 5 on Fridays, and 1 on a Saturday.

5 of the reported homicides were ruled justifiable as self-defense by investigators or prosecutors. The police department therefore acknowledges 32 chargeable homicides, 2 of which were charged as manslaughter. Suspects have been identified in 20 cases, arrested in 17 and charged in 16.

32 deaths so far have resulted from shootings, 2 from stabbing, 1 from a hit-and-run, one from asphyxiation, and one from child abuse. 10 incidents occurred at private homes, 3 at apartment complexes, 1 at a private club, 4 at businesses, and 16 on the streets. 14 were reported in the West Precinct, 15 in the East Precinct, 3 in the South Precinct and 5 in the North Precinct.

At least 4 deaths resulted from planned ambushes, 3 took place during robberies, 3 were described as domestic incidents, one was child abuse, and 13 occurred following sudden disputes. The motive is unknown in 14 other deaths.

35 victims were male and 2 were female.
