February 18 in the history of the Birmingham District:

2014: St Paul & the Broken Bones' first full-length album, "Half the City", was released.
2011: Dunkin' Donuts opened on 6th Avenue South on the UAB campus.
2001: Birmingham Thunderbolts won 14-3 against Chicago Enforcers before a crowd of 17,582 at Legion Field.
1978: Llandovacaste birminghamensis was honored with a special commemorative postmark.
1944: The USS Birmingham (CL-62) left the Mare Island Navy Yard after repairs.
1944: 15-year-old pitcher Joe Nuxhall signed with the Cincinnati Reds.
1907: George Ward was re-elected Mayor of Birmingham.
1904: Giuseppi Moretti arrived in Birmingham, but was not met at the Union Station and had to find his own way to the Commercial Club's offices in the National Bank of Birmingham building.
1891: Oneonta was incorporated.
1861: The "Alabama Republic" was admitted to the Confederate States of America and Jefferson Davis was sworn in as the new nation's first president.
