2000: Charles D. Hart was elected as the first mayor of Clay.
1987: Bo Jackson signed a $7.4 million contract with the Los Angeles Raiders.
1919: Britling Cafeteria had a grand opening at its flagship 1st Avenue North location.
1904: By order of producer Mabel Whitman, the Jefferson Theatre agreed to open its dress circle and parquet seats to African-American patrons for performances of the Whitman Sisters' New Orleans Troubadours on July 23.
1884: Third Presbyterian Church was organized.
