- 1965: Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church and the A. D. King residence were each unsuccessfully targeted by large bombs.
- 1957: Massachusetts Senator John Kennedy spoke on "Labour Racketeering" during a banquet for the Alabama League of Municipalities meeting in Birmingham.
- 1956: Equipment supplier Vulcan Service Company opened a new headquarters at 714 3rd Avenue North in Smithfield.
- 1932: A series of tornados killed 268 in Alabama and 315 total between Texas and South Carolina, leveling the town of Atchison.
- 1906: The Birmingham Board of Aldermen voted 11-4 to proceed with plans to display the Vulcan statue in Capitol Park.
- 1892: The residence of Alderman David Fox and his adjoining grocery store were damaged in a fire caused by an "incendiary device".
