The 1991 Iron Bowl was decided on November 30 at Birmingham's Legion Field. The Auburn Tigers lost to Alabama 13-6.

A Bear Bryant-era contract to keep the game between the two teams in Birmingham was in question; Auburn's Pat Dye insisted the 1989 Iron Bowl be played for the first time in Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. As a compromise, he allowed the 1991 Iron Bowl to be played at Legion Field, Auburn's final "home game" in Birmingham.

The game was the Tide's head coach Gene Stallings' second consecutive Iron Bowl victory.
