- 2009: A special election was held to elect a Mayor of Birmingham after the conviction of Larry Langford.
- 2009: A small plane made a soft landing in a field next to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

- 2005: Ground was broken for the Birmingham Social Security Administration Center.
- 1945: Distinguished Service Cross recipient Elliott Dent received his discharge from the US Air Force.
- 1921: Shades Valley Lodge No. 829 in Homewood was chartered.
- 1888: The bodies of Emma and Irene Hawes were found in Lakeview Park. Postmaster Maurice Throckmorton and nine others were killed during ensuing riot at the Jefferson County Jail.
- 1870: Josiah Morris purchased the 4,150 acres which would become Birmingham.
